While the magazine is keeping tight-lipped on what exactly is planned to commemorate the milestone (because editor-in-chief Radhika Jones wants the VIP guests surprised), it’s no secret that the dinner and after-party will, for the ninth consecutive year , take place in a custom-built venue on the grounds of the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. Designer re-creates party dress made for Lady Diana

LONDON — This is a dress with a story, and Elizabeth Emanuel wants to tell it.

Shocking pink with a plunging, ruffled neckline and body-hugging shape, the gown was designed by Emanuel for Lady Diana Spencer to wear at a Buckingham Palace party a few days before her marriage to Prince Charles in 1981. It was a visual coming-out event for the future princess, until then largely known for her conservative sweater-and-pearls look.

“This was definitely not a wallflower dress,” said Emanuel, who also co-designed Diana’s wedding gown. “This was a dress to be seen in and celebrated.”

Party of light and music opens Birmingham Commonwealth Games

The Australian team was the first to march into the arena in a Commonwealth Games opening ceremony bursting with light, colour, music and dancing this morning.

More than 200 Aussie athletes from the 750 strong team of competitors and officials marched into Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium in a party-like start to the 12-day sporting spectacular.
